WELTSTAR

WELTSTAR (Stable Name - Guinness)

Guinness came to us for preparation for sale.

Assessment: Guinness is a lovely horse, that needed more education before being sold.

A very intelligent animal but as he’s still a “baby”, he struggles to concentrate for long periods. He is naturally well balanced, with a great canter and shows the qualities of a top class horse.

Guinness has a great presence, but I would like to achieve more forwardness and suppleness.

He is very compact, and he carries himself very well, however I feel he now has to learn to ”let go” more.

Therefore, I will work him in a deeper frame to develop more “swing “in his steps. His stable manners needed to improve.

Aim: Initially, I wanted to make sure, he is produced quickly into a lovely ride for anyone who would be a potential buyer. After working with him I felt that I wanted to give Guinness time to develop mentally and physically. I feel, he needs time and variety. He seems like a teenager, who’s grown too quickly and who needs time to find himself.

As a result, I decided to invest in him myself, I also found a very kind investor, who liked him too.

I can now give him time to develop. I vary his work regime, using poles, hacking, and lungeing to strengthen him and to keep him interested. I hope to take him to a local show in a the near future.

Guinness is enjoying working out in the open space! To improve his strength and to keep him away from the constant schooling environment a talented dressage horse may face, we have been hacking him out a lot over the recent weeks. Up our hills, and we also loaded him and his friends up to make the most of the nearby beautiful Marlborough Downs! What fun for all of us!

He feels and looks stronger already and when we're out and about he is busy showing off his wonderful, elegant way of going while the eventers in his group are usually half a mile ahead :-) but he doesn't mind ....

We have also jumped little fences and although it took him a few goes to work out where to place his feet, he seems to have worked it out now!

Due to financial commitments, we decided to find a new home for Guinness. Guinness moved up to Birmingham to a brilliant home and owner, just what he needs!

We hope that we can stay in touch!
